Post Production

Our facility in downtown DC houses four multi-platform edit suites running Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Symphony and Final Cut 7. We have two full-time editors at our DC headquarters and two under contract at the US Census Bureau. All are skilled in the Adobe Creative Suite which includes Premier editing software as well as AfterEffects, Illustrator and Photoshop for graphics work. Finally, we utilize an Avid Pro-Tools audio post-production suite and narration booth for audio mixing and voiceover recording.

The graphics team at Ventana Productions is usually the first and last stop for a post-production project. In addition to possessing great creative talent, our designers are technically proficient and often solve issues for clients that go beyond simply creating graphics. Our graphics department’s tools include Cinema 4D , Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max and Adobe Creative Cloud. Whether its lower thirds or whole worlds, we’ve got you covered.

 

Our media services team works hard to ensure that your digital assets mastering, digitizing, and compression needs are met quickly and correctly. We are experts in managing media and can guide you through the complex process of file-based delivery to broadcasters or for posting on the web. We also author legacy DVDs and Blu-Rays in-house.

There are many different media formats to juggle when you think about getting your content out to a wider audience. H.264, MPEG4, AAC, MPEG2. At Ventana Productions, accessibility isn’t an afterthought — it’s built into how we plan, shoot, and deliver every project for federal and public-sector clients. We design our production and post-production workflows around Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the WCAG 2.0 Level AA success criteria it incorporates, so the video content we deliver is usable by the widest possible audience, including viewers who are blind, low vision, deaf, or hard of hearing.

What Section 508 Requires for Video
Video paired with sound — “synchronized media” — carries specific technical requirements under the Revised 508 Standards:

• Closed captions for all prerecorded and live video, synchronized with the audio, with speaker identification, sound effects, and tone descriptors included — not just raw auto-generated text.
• Audio description for prerecorded video whenever the visuals carry meaning the audio track alone doesn’t convey, narrated during natural pauses in dialogue and delivered as an alternate audio track or a separately described version.
• Transcripts published alongside the video for audio-only or video-only content, or as a full text alternative where description alone isn’t enough.
• Accessible video players, with caption and audio-description controls placed at the same menu level as volume and playback — not buried in a submenu — and fully operable by keyboard.

How We Build It Into Production
We treat 508 compliance as a preproduction requirement, not a post-launch fix:

• Scripts and shot lists are reviewed early for caption-safe framing, so titles and lower-thirds never collide with captions on screen.
• We record clean, isolated dialogue tracks on set to support accurate captioning and description writing later.
• Captions are delivered in standard formats (SRT, WebVTT, or TTML) and hand-checked for line length, reading speed, and sync — auto-generated captions are a starting point, never the finished product.
• Audio description scripts are written and recorded when a project’s visuals require it, then mixed into a compliant alternate track or delivered as a described video file.
• Every deliverable goes through an accessibility QA pass before handoff, so caption drift or missing description cues are caught before your team ever sees the file.
